Boyd baseball is back in familiar territory.
The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the Class 3A Division I Region II finals for the fourth consecutive season after sweeping Tatum last week in the regional semifinals at North Forney High School.
Boyd won Game 1 by a 5-0 score behind a dominant outing from Will McIntire, who tossed a complete-game one-hitter with 12 strikeouts. In Game 2, Lane Beacham delivered 6 2/3 strong innings and recorded 10 strikeouts in a 6-2 victory.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 34-2 and now move on to face Gunter in the regional finals with a trip to the state semifinals on the line. Boyd would meet either Iowa Park or Shallowater out of Region I with a series victory.
The best-of-three regional final series will be played at Denton Ryan High School. Because of graduation schedules, the series format has been adjusted. Game 1 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Game 2 at 7 p.m. Thursday. A deciding Game 3, if necessary, will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday.
