Bridgeport athletics avoided the weekend winter weather by moving its basketball and soccer contests from Friday to Thursday last week.

It was a big week for the Bulls as they continued their chase for a playoff spot in District 7-4A. Bridgeport picked up a pair of wins to move to 13-14 overall and 3-4 in district play. Last Tuesday, the Bulls handled Castleberry of River Oaks 71-49. They then earned a hard-fought 49-40 victory at Decatur on Thursday.

Bridgeport was paced by Julius Johnson, who scored 20 points, while Blake Morrow added 13 and Owen Jones chipped in 12. The Bulls will host Eagle Mountain on Tuesday and travel to Springtown on Friday.

The Sissies split their week in district action. They dominated Lake Worth 94-23 on Tuesday but fell 62-35 at No. 1 Decatur on Thursday. Bridgeport’s girls team is now 19-12 overall and 6-3 in 7-4A, holding third place in the district. The Lady Sissies follow the same schedule as the boys, facing Eagle Mountain at home Tuesday and Springtown on Friday.

In soccer, Bridgeport boys are 9-2 following a 1-0 loss to Eagle Mountain last Tuesday. The girls are 2-6 and play at Eagle Mountain on Tuesday.
