Bridgeport baseball is headed to the playoffs after splitting its final-week series against Burkburnett to secure a Class 4A Division II postseason berth.

The Bulls clinched a playoff spot last Tuesday with a 21-9 win in the series opener, making Friday’s finale meaningless in terms of postseason positioning. Bridgeport dropped the final game 9-5 but still finished as the No. 2 seed from District 7-4A.

The Bulls conclude the regular season 11-16-2 overall and 6-6 in district play. They will face District 8-4A champion Benbrook in a best-of-three opening-round series at Boyd High School. Games are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 7:00 p.m., with a potential deciding Game 3 set for Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Bridgeport distance runner Brayden Del Rio will also compete later this week at the Class 4A Region I track meet at Lowrey Field in Lubbock. The freshman makes his debut in the 1,600 meters after finishing second at the area meet in Springtown with a time of 4:50.37.
