Bridgeport has a new leader for its volleyball program.

Kallye Johnson, a two-time state championship coach at the private school level, was hired last week as the new head coach of the Sissies volleyball program. Johnson is married to Bridgeport boys basketball coach Joshua Johnson and was already working on campus as a teacher. She returns to coaching after stepping away for the past couple of years.

Johnson replaces Chris Rudiger, who left after three seasons to become the head coach at Castleberry.

Before arriving at Bridgeport, Johnson won two state championships at Ovilla Christian, a TAPPS school in Red Oak. Bridgeport hopes her experience can help revive a program that has struggled in recent seasons. Johnson becomes the third volleyball coach in the past five years for the Sissies.

The high school volleyball season begins August 1.
