CLEBURNE, Texas — It was a rough night for the Yellow Jackets last Thursday as they fell 57-14 to Burleson in a renewal of an old Johnson County rivalry at BISD Stadium.
The Elks built a 25-6 halftime lead, then broke the game open with a 26-point third quarter. Cleburne quarterback Luke Stewart threw for one of the Jackets’ two touchdowns but was intercepted four times. Defensively, Cleburne struggled to slow Burleson’s high-powered attack.
The Yellow Jackets, now 1-1, will look to regroup Friday when they host Waco at The Rock Pile. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Lions are 0-2 after losses to Granbury and Corsicana.
In volleyball, District 8-5A play begins Tuesday for the Lady Jackets. They enter at 8-13 after non-district competition and will host Burleson Centennial on Tuesday before facing Joshua at home on Friday.
