Two Cleburne cross country runners are headed to the Class 5A state meet Friday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Junior Jessilyn Wurster qualified on the girls side, while sophomore Nico Flores advanced for the boys.
At the Class 5A Region I meet Monday at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, Wurster placed eighth with a time of 19:20, and Flores finished 19th with a time of 16:56. The Cleburne girls team also turned in a strong performance, placing 10th out of 24 teams. Results from the state meet will be available next week.
On the volleyball court, the Lady Jackets locked up the fourth playoff berth from District 8-5A after sweeping Arlington Seguin in the regular-season finale. Cleburne finished 15-21 overall and 7-7 in district play. The postseason begins this week.
In football, the Yellow Jackets wrap up their first season under head coach AJ Sheppard at home Friday at the Rock Pile against Joshua. Cleburne enters the game 2-7 overall and 0-5 in District 7-5A. The Jackets fell 56-14 at Highland Park last Thursday and will have a bye next week.
