No. 21 Cleburne Lady Jackets basketball has clinched a playoff berth and is on the verge of wrapping up the District 8-5A championship. A weather-shortened schedule produced two key wins last week: a 58-36 victory at Burleson Centennial on Thursday, followed by a 40-26 home decision over Joshua on Friday.
The Lady Jackets are now 22-8 overall and 11-0 in district play. Having swept second-place Mansfield Summit, they can secure the district title outright with a win Tuesday at Burleson, then potentially seal it Friday at home against Mansfield Timberview.
Cleburne’s boys basketball team struggled last week, dropping games to Centennial, 91-44, and Joshua, 42-19. The Jackets are 11-17 overall and 2-7 in 8-5A. They follow the same schedule as the girls with games at Burleson Tuesday and home to Timberview Friday.
In soccer, the Jackets won both contests last week, 1-0 over Joshua and 4-3 over Burleson, improving to 3-6-4 overall and 2-1 in district play. Lady Jackets soccer remains unbeaten in district action at 7-0-4 overall and 1-0-2 in 8-5A. They played Joshua to a 4-4 draw and defeated Burleson 7-0.
Cleburne will learn its new UIL district alignment for the next two years when the organization releases its biannual realignment Monday.
