Cleburne athletics will remain at the Class 5A Division I level for the next two years, the University Interscholastic League announced Monday. Football and other sports will compete in separate districts.
For football, the Yellow Jackets are in District 8-5A in Region II, an eight-team district that includes 2025 Class 6A Division II state champion DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Burleson Centennial, Lancaster, Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Summit and Midlothian. Head coach AJ Sheppard’s program will play a three-game non-district schedule against Granbury, Arlington Heights and Arlington Sam Houston.
Other sports remain in District 8-5A in Region I, an eight-team district that includes Arlington Seguin, Burleson Centennial, Joshua, Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Summit, Mansfield Timberview and Arlington Seguin. The new districts take effect in August with the start of volleyball.
Cleburne girls basketball, ranked No. 16 in the state, is on pace to wrap up the District 8-5A title this week.
