Cleburne softball is moving on to the Class 5A playoffs.

On Monday in Alvarado, the Lady Jackets defeated Mansfield Timberview in the District 8-5A playoff play-in game, 6-2. The teams finished tied at 7-7 for the final playoff spot.

The Lady Jackets will face Paschal in the Division I Region I opening round. The one-game playoff is scheduled for Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch in Kennedale.

Cleburne is 16-18 overall, while Paschal, which tied for the District 7-5A championship, is 14-14.

Jackets baseball controls its postseason destiny. A win in one of its final two games against last-place Arlington Seguin this week will send Cleburne back to the playoffs.

Last week, Cleburne swept Mansfield Summit, 12-0 and 5-4, to improve to 20-7 overall and 7-5 in District 8-5A. The Jackets entered the week on a seven-game winning streak.

At the area track meet last week in Joshua, Cleburne’s Region I qualifiers include Nico Flores in the 800 meters, Braydon Deskins in the 1,600 meters, CJ Kensley in the high jump and Giselle Aguilar in the girls 400 meters.
