Cleburne – The Cleburne Yellow Jackets continue to show offensive spark, but defensive issues persist. Last Friday at John Tyler, the Jackets scored 30 points and gained more than 460 yards but allowed over 530 yards in a 66-30 loss. Cleburne is 2-5 overall and 0-3 in District 7-5A.
Quarterback Luke Stewart threw for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns, pushing his season total near 1,200 yards. The Jackets’ rushing game added a season-best 285 yards. Cleburne returns to the Rock Pile on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup with Red Oak. The Hawks are 3-3 and 1-1 in district after a 10-7 win over Joshua.
Lady Jackets volleyball hosts Mansfield Timberview on Tuesday in a key District 8-5A contest, with both teams tied for the final playoff spot at 4-6. They then play at Everman on Friday. Cleburne is 12-20 this season.
At the District 8-5A cross country meet last Thursday in Burleson, sophomore Nico Flores won the individual boys title. The girls team finished second and qualified for the Region I meet.
