The District 15-5A boys soccer playoff race remains tightly packed, and Corsicana is doing everything it can to stay clear of the logjam.

The Tigers sit in third place after a dominant 9-1 win over Kaufman on Tuesday. Gustavo Morales powered the attack with a hat trick and an assist, while Chris Velasquez added two goals.

Corsicana improved to 11-7 overall and 6-4 in District 15-5A. The Tigers face a major test Friday on the road against district leader Midlothian Heritage. Corsicana is being pursued closely by Midlothian, Ennis and Red Oak, with four teams battling for two postseason spots.

On the girls side, Lady Tigers soccer returns home Friday to host Heritage.

Tiger basketball closed its season on a positive note. In a makeup game played Feb. 19, Corsicana edged Midlothian Heritage, 47-45. The Tigers finished the season 6-22 overall and 3-11 in District 15-5A, winning their final two games.

In softball, Lady Tigers are into the third week of the season and competing in tournament play through Saturday. Corsicana entered the weekend at 2-3-1.

Tiger baseball is also in tournament action in Irving. Corsicana went 5-1 in its opening tournament last week.
