Corsicana baseball is advancing to the area round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs after a dominant opening series.
The Tigers swept Waco University in the Region II opening round, winning 15-0 on Wednesday and 14-0 on Thursday. The series, broadcast on 106.9 FM The Ranch, was moved up to avoid the rainy Friday forecast, though Wednesday’s start was delayed 90 minutes due to weather. Corsicana improved to 27-5-1 with the sweep and has already surpassed last season’s win total of 22 by five games.
Corsicana will face Dallas Hillcrest in next week’s area round, with schedule details still pending. The series will again be carried on 106.9 FM.
The Corsicana track and field team will also be represented at the Class 5A Region II meet Friday and Saturday at the University of Texas at Arlington. Area qualifiers include Corbin Branch in the long jump, Measha Rhinehart in the 400 and triple jump, and the girls 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
