Corsicana baseball is one win away from advancing to the regional semifinals of the Class 5A Division II Region II playoffs.
The Tigers lead their best-of-three area playoff series against Dallas Hillcrest after a 7-3 victory Thursday night at Dallas Baptist University. Corsicana broke open a close game with a three-run seventh inning to improve to 28-5-1 on the season.
Game 2 is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at DBU and will air on 106.9 FM The Ranch, with the pregame show beginning at 4:45 p.m. If necessary, a deciding Game 3 will be played at noon Saturday, also at DBU. Rusty Hitt will have the call on 106.9 FM.
Corsicana opened the postseason with dominant wins over Waco University, 15-0 and 14-0, in the opening round.
Corsicana track and field will also send several athletes to the Class 5A state meet next week in Austin. Corbin Branch qualified in the long jump for the boys team. On the girls side, Measha Rhinehart qualified in the 400 meters and triple jump, while the girls 4×400 relay team also advanced. Rhinehart in the 400 and the relay team earned wild-card berths.
