
Steve Huff’s Decatur Eagles enter their bye week with plenty of momentum. Decatur sits at 5-2 overall and 4-0 in District 5-4A, having clinched a playoff berth and sharing the district lead with Springtown.
The Eagles dominated Western Hills last Friday, rolling to a 70-7 win. The game went according to plan, with Decatur jumping out to a 49-0 halftime lead before clearing the bench in the second half. The Eagles piled up 550 yards of total offense, including 377 on the ground. Jake Milligan led the rushing attack with 157 yards and three touchdowns.
The off week provides a valuable opportunity for Decatur to rest, recover and prepare for the final stretch of the regular season.
On the volleyball court, the No. 6-ranked Lady Eagles have already secured a playoff spot. Whether Friday’s home finale against district leader Eagle Mountain carries district-title implications depended on Tuesday’s results at Krum. Decatur entered the week 35-5 overall and 10-2 in District 7-4A.
At the Class 4A Region I cross country meet Tuesday at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, Tate Clackler qualified for the boys state meet, while Maddyx Coffman and Reagan Nick advanced for the girls. The Lady Eagles narrowly missed qualifying as a team, finishing just six points short.
