This is it, the battle for the District 5-4A championship comes down to Friday night in Parker County. Decatur travels to face No. 8 Springtown in a showdown between two of the district’s best.
The Eagles enter the matchup 5-2 overall and 4-0 in district play, while the Porcupines are 9-0 and 5-0. Both teams have already clinched playoff berths.
Decatur had the good fortune of avoiding last week’s weather during its bye week, giving the team extra time to prepare for the high-stakes matchup. The game will feature two standout quarterbacks. Rhys Ragan for Decatur and Kaine Hill for Springtown. Kickoff at Springtown is set for 7 p.m.
On the volleyball court, the No. 6-ranked Lady Eagles begin defense of their 2024 state championship Thursday at 6:30 p.m. They’ll open the Class 4A Division I Region I playoffs against Southwest at Haslet VR Eaton. Decatur enters the postseason as the No. 2 seed after dropping Monday’s seeding match to Springtown. The Lady Eagles are 36-7 overall after finishing tied for second in District 7-4A at 11-3.
In cross country, Decatur’s Maddyx Coffman, Reagan Nicks and Tate Clackler will compete Saturday at the UIL Class 4A state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
