When it comes to the state finals in volleyball, no program finishes stronger than Decatur. The Lady Eagles successfully defended their Class 4A Division I state championship last Friday, extending their perfect record in title matches to 7-0.
At the Culwell Center in Garland, Decatur stormed back after dropping the opening set to defeat La Vernia 19-25, 25-20, 25-18 and 26-24. Sophomore outside hitter Ava Green was named the match’s MVP after delivering 18 blocks and anchoring the Lady Eagles’ front-line dominance.
The run was even more impressive considering Decatur entered the postseason as the third seed from District 7-4A after dropping its final two regular-season matches. Under second-year head coach Stormi Snider, the Lady Eagles have now captured state championships in each of the past two seasons. Congratulations to the Lady Eagles on another historic finish.
On the football field, Decatur advances to the Class 4A Division I Region II semifinals. The Eagles, now 8-3, will face top-ranked and undefeated Celina (12-0) on Black Friday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Pennington Field in Bedford.
Decatur punched its ticket to the regional semifinals with a 49-21 win over Paris last Saturday, powered by more than 400 rushing yards from a balanced offensive attack.
