Decatur athletics will remain at the Class 4A Division I level for the next two years, the University Interscholastic League announced Monday. Football and other sports will compete in separate districts.
For football, the Eagles will compete in an eight-team District 4-4A in Region I alongside Alvarado, Aubrey, Godley, Carrollton Ranchview, Castleberry, Lake Dallas and Springtown. Head coach Steve Huff’s program will play a three-game non-district schedule against Class 5A opponents Eagle Mountain, Denison and Wichita Falls Memorial.
In all other sports, Decatur will remain in a seven-team District 7-4A with Bridgeport, Burkburnett, Iowa Park, Lake Worth, Castleberry and Springtown.
The new districts take effect in August with the start of volleyball.
Meanwhile, No. 1 Lady Eagles basketball is on pace to wrap up the District 7-4A title this week. The team entered this week 28-4 overall and 11-0 in district play.
