Decatur softball is ready to open the Class 4A playoffs.
The Lady Eagles begin the Division I Region I postseason with a one-game playoff against Western Hills. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Decatur.
The Lady Eagles enter the game at 11-9 overall. They finished District 7-4A play last week at 7-5, losing to Springtown, 11-5, but winning the finale against district champion Burkburnett, 10-9. Western Hills is 9-14.
Eagle baseball is in a must-win situation Thursday for the District 7-4A title.
Springtown won Monday’s series opener in Decatur, 4-2. The teams meet again Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Springtown. The Eagles are 18-7-1 overall and 10-1 in District 7-4A, one game behind the Porcupines.
With a win, Decatur will play a seeding game Saturday. With a loss, the Eagles will be the No. 2 Division seed. Decatur swept Eagle Mountain last week.
Decatur boys and girls track will send a large contingent to the Class 4A Region I meet next week in Lubbock.
Regional qualifiers include 1,600-meter area champion Jose Espinoza, two boys relay teams, area champion Ava Green in the high jump and area champion Maddyx Coffman in the 1,600 meters.
