With a change in football leadership, new Decatur head coach Cliff Watkins inherits a program that has already completed its offseason workouts.

The Eagles are now transitioning into summer strength and conditioning sessions along with UIL-approved sport instruction programs.

Watkins also takes over a Decatur 7-on-7 team that has already qualified for the Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament. Last week in Carrollton, the Eagles went 4-0 to earn a berth in the state event, scheduled for June 25-27 at Veterans Park in College Station.

Decatur returns a strong offensive core for the 2026 season, led by rising junior quarterback Rhys Ragan. Ragan threw for 2,500 yards and 35 touchdowns during the 2025 campaign. Rising junior wide receiver Wyatt Dunn also returns after totaling nearly 900 receiving yards and 11 touchdown catches last season.

Watkins is continuing to finalize his coaching staff and is expected to announce additional hires in the coming weeks.
