Eagle Mountain suffered a heartbreaking 20-18 loss Friday night at Graham in the regular-season finale, as the Steers scored the game-winning touchdown with just 16 seconds remaining.

The defeat closed the Knights’ regular season at 7-3 overall and 3-2 in District 3-4A play. Eagle Mountain will enter the Class 4A Division II Region I playoffs as the district’s No. 3 seed.

In a game defined by strong defensive play, the Knights made things interesting in the final moments. After Graham’s late touchdown, Eagle Mountain intercepted the Steers’ two-point conversion attempt and returned it for two points, cutting the deficit to 20-18. Running back Terry Starks led the offense with 109 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The Knights open the postseason Friday night against Benbrook (6-4) in the bi-district round. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Birdville Fine Arts and Athletic Complex in North Richland Hills.

In volleyball, the No. 3-ranked Lady Knights were one win away from reaching the state semifinals. Eagle Mountain faced Canyon Randall in the Class 4A Division II Region I championship Tuesday in Sweetwater after sweeping Canyon in last week’s regional semifinals. The Lady Knights entered the title match 35-11 overall.
