It’s a pivotal week for Eagle Mountain athletics, with both volleyball and football stepping onto big postseason stages.

The fifth-ranked Lady Knights volleyball team will play for the first state championship in school history Friday when they face Wimberley in the Class 4A Division II title match. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Culwell Center in Garland. Eagle Mountain enters at 37-11, while Wimberley, the defending state champion is 46-5.

Eagle Mountain earned its berth with a dominant sweep of Longview Spring Hill in the state semifinals Saturday at the Wilkerson-Greines Athletics Center in Fort Worth. The Lady Knights have not dropped a set during their playoff run and carry a 23-match winning streak into the finals.

On the football field, the Knights are moving on to the Class 4A Division II Region I area playoffs. Eagle Mountain improved to 8-3 after defeating Benbrook 28-12 in the bi-district round last Friday. Quarterback Brycen Vindiola threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the win.

The Knights now prepare for a major test against No. 4 Midland Greenwood, which enters at 11-0 after a 59-20 victory over Perryton in its opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday in Clyde.
