Eagle Mountain’s classification future is very much in flux as the University Interscholastic League prepares to release its new cutoff numbers for the upcoming realignment cycle.

The Knights submitted an enrollment figure of 1,315 students, a notable number because it matched the exact floor for Class 5A at the 2024 UIL realignment. What happens next depends on whether the UIL raises or lowers that threshold. If the cutoff increases, Eagle Mountain would remain in Class 4A, though as one of the largest schools in the classification. If the number drops, the Knights could make the jump to Class 5A, where they would immediately rank among the smallest schools in that class.

The UIL is expected to release its official classification numbers later this month, with full district alignments announced in early February. Eagle Mountain officials and coaches will be watching closely, as the outcome could significantly impact scheduling, district competition and long-term planning across all sports.

On the court, Knights basketball is trending in a positive direction. Eagle Mountain enters the week with a 7-6 record after an impressive showing at the Godley Tournament. The Knights went a perfect 4-0 in the event, a strong bounce-back stretch that showcased improved execution and consistency.

Following the tournament, Eagle Mountain returned home Tuesday to host Godley, continuing a busy non-district slate. The Knights are back on the road Friday with a matchup at Paradise, another opportunity to test themselves against a competitive opponent before the holiday break.

The Lady Knights are also transitioning into an important phase of their season. Eagle Mountain began the December portion of District 7-4A play Tuesday night at home against Burkburnett, marking the start of games that will carry postseason implications.

Eagle Mountain entered the week with a 10-6 overall record, positioning itself well in the early district race. The Lady Knights will continue district action Friday on the road at Lake Worth, a matchup that will provide an early gauge of how they stack up within the league.

Between potential realignment changes and a busy stretch of basketball, the Knights and Lady Knights are navigating a pivotal period. With classification clarity expected soon and district play now underway, Eagle Mountain athletics faces a December filled with both opportunity and uncertainty.
