
ENNIS, Texas — The Ennis Lions closed the book on a resurgent 2025 football season, ending with a 7–5 record and a third-place finish in District 5A Division II under first-year head coach Don Drake. A program viewed as an underdog entering the year, Ennis exceeded expectations with gritty performances, marquee moments and a playoff run that energized the community.
The Lions delivered several highlights throughout the fall, including a memorable win in the Battle of Chambers Creek over rival Corsicana. The victory not only showcased Ennis’ physicality but also secured the program’s playoff berth.
In bi-district play, Ennis exploded offensively in a 70–35 win over Woodrow Wilson on Nov. 14, generating optimism for a deep run. The Lions’ postseason ended in the area round with a 63–21 loss to Port Neches-Groves, but the team’s competitive spirit remained evident.

Kylan Johnson, senior WR/DB, finished with 40 receptions for 687 yards and six touchdowns, including an 83-yard score.

Chris Martinez, senior QB, posted a 60% completion rate with 18 passing touchdowns and just four interceptions, accounting for 24 total scores.

Andre Ibanez, senior WR/K, earned Special Teams Player of the Year honors with 441 receiving yards, 29 catches, two touchdowns, a 5-for-6 mark on field goals (long of 42), a perfect 41-for-41 on PATs and the team’s top punting average.

Wendarius Jones, senior RB, powered the ground attack with 27 touchdowns and averaged seven yards per carry.
