Both Glen Rose basketball programs continue to build momentum as the calendar turns toward district competition, with strong performances closing out December and early January tournament play.
The Tigers spent the first half of this week competing in the Wimberley Tournament, located southwest of Austin, capping what has been an impressive start to the season. Glen Rose entered the tournament with a 12-5 record, showcasing an offense that has consistently produced at a high level.
Before the Christmas break, the Tigers delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, rolling past McGregor 80-50 on Dec. 19. It marked the second time Glen Rose has reached the 80-point mark this season and the fourth time it has scored at least 74 points, highlighting the team’s ability to score in bunches.
Glen Rose will look to keep that offensive rhythm going Friday with a road trip to Waco La Vega. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. as the Tigers continue their non-district slate ahead of league play.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Tigers wrapped up competition earlier this week at the Aggieland Tournament in College Station, making a return trip to the event as part of their non-district schedule. Glen Rose carried a 10-10 record into the tournament, using the opportunity to test itself against quality competition.
Prior to the holiday break, the Lady Tigers turned in a dominant showing at home, cruising to a 63-26 victory over Fort Worth Country Day on Dec. 19. The win showcased Glen Rose’s defensive intensity while providing a confidence boost heading into the final stretch of non-district play.
The Lady Tigers have one more tune-up remaining before district action begins. Glen Rose will face Grandview on Friday with an 11:15 a.m. start. District 6-4A play opens Jan. 9, marking the start of what the program hopes will be a strong league campaign.
With both teams showing positive signs on both ends of the floor, Glen Rose enters the new year with momentum and growing confidence.
