The District 6-4A season kicks off Friday for the Lady Tigers basketball team, who will travel to Graham to face a 15-11 squad that is hitting its stride at the right time. Malakoff’s Lady Tigers have won six of their last seven games, including a 3-1 showing in the Aggieland Tournament in College Station last week. They also dominated Grandview 71-25 in their final non-district game last Friday.
Tiger basketball will not play again until Tuesday, when they travel up the Red River to take on Wichita Falls Memorial. Glen Rose is coming off a brief two-game losing streak, falling 51-48 to Abilene and 54-44 at Waco La Vega. The losses follow a strong performance at the Wimberley Tournament before the New Year’s Holiday, where the Tigers went 4-0 with wins over Lockhart, host Wimberley, and Gordon. Malakoff’s Tigers currently stand 16-7 on the season.
In District 4-4A football honors, Malakoff linebacker and tight end Tyler Ribitzki was named Utility Player of the Year, capping a strong campaign for the program.
