As the 2025-26 athletics season comes to a close, the biggest storyline for Glen Rose was a change in athletic leadership.
Earlier this month, Cliff Watkins departed after 10 years to become the head football coach and athletic director at Decatur. Glen Rose promoted defensive coordinator Jeff Pair to replace him, and Pair is now working to complete his staff.
His offensive coordinator will be a familiar name to the Glen Rose community. Jacob Marwitz is returning after serving as offensive coordinator at Brownwood, where he helped guide the Lions to the playoffs and the area round in 2025. Marwitz previously worked at Glen Rose from 2016-18.
Pair is still searching for a defensive coordinator after vacating that role himself. He hopes to have the position filled by the first week of June.
Meanwhile, the Glen Rose 7-on-7 team is still trying to qualify for the state tournament. The Tigers will compete this weekend in Brownwood for a chance to advance to the June 25-27 state event at Veterans Park in College Station.
Glen Rose now prepares for a new era in athletics and a new district alignment following February’s UIL realignment. The 2026-27 athletics season begins Aug. 1.
