A determined approach and a spectacular night from quarterback Jace Gill, has the Graham Steers practicing on Thanksgiving week. Gill delivered 380 total yards and four touchdowns to power Graham past Lubbock Liberty, 35-28, in the Class 4A Division II Region I area round.

The Steers, now 9-3, advance to the regional semifinals for the second consecutive season.

Trailing 21-14 early in the third quarter, Gill sparked the comeback by directing three scoring drives that pushed Graham ahead 35-21. The Steers defense then stepped up with key stops to secure the upset over a Liberty team that had entered the game ranked No. 1 in the state.

A massive challenge awaits next. Graham will face undefeated Midland Greenwood (12-0), which rolled past Eagle Mountain 58-13 in its area-round matchup. The regional semifinal is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Mustang Bowl in Sweetwater.

On the basketball court, Lady Blues started the season 4-0 before competing twice Monday in the Bowie Tournament. The Steers boys began their year 2-0 heading into Monday’s game against Breckenridge.
