GRANBURY, Texas — Pirate football looked and played different in the 2025 season opener — and the result was a dominating 30-6 win Friday at Waco.
New starting quarterback Austin Reeves impressed in his debut, throwing for 241 yards and a 41-yard touchdown strike to Caleb Johnson. Johnson finished with 81 receiving yards, while tight end Brayden Pugh made a strong first showing with three catches for 55 yards.
Granbury will play its home opener Friday at Johnny Perkins Field against Waco University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Trojans lost their season opener to Keller Central, 43-17. KHITS 95.5 will carry the broadcast, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. Clayton Neville will handle play-by-play and Hayden Howertown will provide color commentary.
In volleyball, the Lady Pirates wrapped up tournament play over the weekend at Wolfforth Frenship, finishing with a 13-16 overall record. They will travel Tuesday to face Glen Rose.
On the cross country course, Granbury’s Gannon Dolan claimed the boys individual title at the Burleson Elk Run on Friday.
