Granbury athletics may soon face a significant shift depending on the upcoming UIL realignment. The school narrowly missed a move to Class 6A in the last cycle, reporting just over 2,200 students in 2024, short of the 2,275 cutoff.
This year’s snapshot number, released in late October, came in at 2,264, still below the most recent 6A threshold. The UIL will announce new cutoff numbers in early December, and it remains unclear whether the Class 6A floor will rise or fall. If the number is lowered and Granbury is moved up, the Pirates would enter 6A as one of the smallest schools in the classification. Until the announcement, Granbury will continue playing the waiting game.
On the court, the Lady Pirates have been busy through the early stages of the basketball season. They sit at 5-4 after tournament action over the weekend, with recent wins over Burleson and Arlington Martin. Granbury hosted Glen Rose on Monday and heads to Decatur on Tuesday.
The Pirates boys program is off to a 1-5 start and will host Prosper on Tuesday as it looks to gain early-season traction.
