Granbury athletics is entering a new era, as the UIL announced last week that the school will move up to Class 6A beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
Granbury submitted an average daily student enrollment of 2,264 earlier this year, comfortably above the Class 6A threshold of 2,215. The decision marks a long-anticipated move, as the school’s enrollment had been closely monitored for potential reclassification.
Granbury football is concluding its run in Class 5A Division I within District 3-5A alongside Aledo, Azle, Denton Ryan, Denton High, Birdville, Keller Fossil Ridge and Richland. Other sports programs finish their spring season in District 5-5A with Aledo, Brewer, Saginaw High, Saginaw Chisholm Trail, Fossil Ridge and Azle. With the move to 6A, all sports will compete in the same district.
The UIL will announce new district alignments on Feb. 2, giving Granbury time to prepare for the transition.
