Lady Cats basketball wins, advance to area round

FORT WORTH – The Aledo High School Lady Cats advanced in the 2026 UIL girls basketball playoffs by defeating Colleyville Heritage High School 48‑21 on Monday in bi‑district play at Eagle Mountain High School.

Aledo took control early and never trailed, showcasing balanced scoring and stifling defense throughout the contest. The victory capped a commanding performance for the Lady Cats, improving their overall record and earning them a berth in the area round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

Aledo’s scoring was paced by a trio of contributors, including Tiara Butler with 13 points, Elizabeth Griffin and Brooklyn Dempsey each adding nine, and Jaylee Owens chipping in eight. Kate Jackson and Kennedy Cardenas also scored for Aledo, rounding out the attack.

The Lady Cats’ defense held Colleyville Heritage to 21 points, limiting scoring opportunities and forcing turnovers throughout the matchup. With the win, Aledo advances to face Joshua High School in the next round.

The area round contest is slated for Thursday, Feb. 19, at Godley High School. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.

Aledo enters the area round riding momentum from their bi‑district victory and looking to continue their playoff success as they pursue a deeper run in the UIL postseason.
