For Aledo, this season has been another chapter in one of the most consistent softball programs in the state. On April 17, the Ladycats clinched their sixth straight district championship, extending their district winning streak to 66 consecutive games. That streak also means the seniors on this Aledo roster have never lost a district game.
The Ladycats opened the playoffs by winning their bi-district series, taking two of three games after winning at home and at a neutral site. From there, Aledo won a winner-take-all Area round matchup against Paschal before delivering one of its most complete playoff series in Wichita Falls against Lubbock Monterey.
In the regional semifinal round, Aledo took Games 1 and 2 from Lubbock Monterey, winning 3-1 in the opener before exploding for a dominant 17-1 victory in Game 2. The Ladycats then carried that momentum into the regional final, defeating Abilene 13-0 in Graham to claim the Region I championship.
Then came one of the biggest wins in the country.
In the state semifinal, Aledo stunned Melissa, the then-ranked No. 1 team in the nation, with a 5-4 thriller. Behind big swings from Delaney Rosser and a strong performance in the circle from Tempe Perry, the Ladycats knocked off the defending state champion Cardinals and earned their place in the title game.
Now, the challenge shifts to Barbers Hill.
The Eagles are no stranger to this stage. Barbers Hill played in last year’s state championship game, falling to Melissa, and now returns with another national-caliber team. Currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, the Eagles enter today’s matchup as one of the most dangerous teams in Texas high school softball.
For Aledo, the role is familiar. The Ladycats have already proven they can win as the underdog, and they enter today’s championship game with momentum, confidence, and a chance to finish the season with a state title.
This is a one-game, winner-take-all matchup for the 5A Division I State Championship. It is one of the highest-caliber games in Texas softball, featuring two regional champions, two unbeaten district champions, and two programs built for moments like this.
