The Aledo Bearcats are one series away from returning to the final stage of the UIL baseball playoffs.
Aledo opens its 5A Division I State Semifinal series against the McKinney North Bulldogs tonight at Horner Ballpark on the campus of Dallas Baptist University. NTX Varsity Sports will carry the live audio broadcast, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:15 p.m. and first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Bearcats enter the matchup with a 41-5 overall record and a perfect 10-0 mark in District 5-5A Division I play. Aledo won the district championship, went undefeated through league competition and now begins the final series standing between the Bearcats and another trip to the state championship.
McKinney North enters the series at 30-8 overall and 10-4 in District 9-5A Division I play. The Bulldogs finished third in their district but have pushed deep into the postseason to earn a spot in the State Semifinal round.
This best-of-three series will decide who advances to the State Championship at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday, May 29 at 5 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning 15 minutes before first pitch. If needed, Game 3 will be played Saturday at noon.
Aledo is the reigning 5A Division I State Champion and is looking to keep its title defense alive. The Bearcats enter the series unbeaten in playoff play, while McKinney North comes in battle-tested after its own run through the bracket.
