The Aledo Bearcats are one win away from another state championship.

Aledo baseball is set to face the Lake Creek Lions in the UIL Class 5A Division I State Championship Game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. This is a one-game, winner-take-all state final, with the 5A Division I crown on the line.

Fans can listen live to the NTX Varsity Sports audio broadcast right here, with the broadcast stream embedded on this page.

The game was originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, but weather delays across the state tournament schedule have pushed the projected first pitch back. As of now, the best-case scenario is a 7:00 p.m. start, though that could change again with more weather still in the area. The NTX Varsity Sports pregame show will begin 15 minutes before the officially announced start time.

Aledo enters the championship matchup as the reigning Class 5A Division I state champion and is looking to complete a back-to-back title run. The Bearcats have been dominant all season, carrying a 38-3 overall record and a perfect 10-0 district mark after winning District 5-5A Division I.

Lake Creek enters the state final at 26-17 overall after finishing second in District 17-5A Division I with a 6-4 district record. The Lions have been strong throughout the postseason, going 10-2 in playoff play to earn their place in the championship game.

Aledo, meanwhile, has been perfect in the postseason at 10-0.

The Bearcats punched their ticket to the state championship series with a dramatic and dominant showing in the state semifinal round against McKinney North. In Game 1, Aledo rolled to a 12-2 win in just 4.5 innings by UIL run rule, a rare result for a state semifinal matchup. After a scoreless first inning, the Bearcats exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second and added five more in the bottom of the third to take control.

Then in Game 2, Aledo delivered one of the defining moments of its season. Trailing late, Lucas Nawrocki blasted a walk-off grand slam to right field in the seventh inning, lifting the Bearcats to a 7-6 win and sending Aledo back to the state championship game.

Now, the Bearcats turn their attention to Lake Creek, with a chance to finish the season on top once again.
