The Aledo Bearcats are now just one win away from returning to the UIL 5A Division I State Semifinals.

NTX Varsity Sports returns to Midland Legacy High School this afternoon for LIVE coverage of Game 2 of the Regional Final series between the defending State Champion Aledo Bearcats and the El Paso Americas Trail Blazers.

Aledo enters Game 2 with a 39-4 overall record after surviving a dramatic and weather-filled Game 1 victory earlier today. After the start of the opener was delayed by rain, followed by another lightning delay midway through the game, the Bearcats held off a late El Paso push to secure a 3-2 victory and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

The Bearcats struck early thanks to a massive two-run home run from Landon Barnes in the bottom of the first inning before adding another run in the second. While the offense cooled off after the early innings, strong pitching, highlighted by Garrett Love, helped Aledo close the door late despite El Paso cutting the lead to one run.

Now, with graduation taking place Friday back in Aledo, the stakes are even higher. A Bearcat victory in Game 2 would eliminate the need for a Game 3 on Saturday and send Aledo directly into the State Semifinal round as they continue their quest to defend last season’s state championship.

El Paso Americas enters the matchup at 27-9 overall and has battled through a difficult Region 1 playoff bracket to reach this stage. The Trail Blazers showed resilience throughout Game 1 and will look to force a winner-take-all Game 3.

Aledo enters the game undefeated in postseason play at 7-0 and remains one of the hottest teams left in the Texas high school baseball playoffs.

Pregame coverage begins at 4:15 PM with first pitch scheduled for 4:20 PM from Midland Legacy High School.
