Malakoff athletics moved its basketball games from the usual Friday evening to Friday afternoon to avoid expected winter weather impacts in North Texas.
Lady Tigers basketball secured an important district victory Friday at Grand Saline, winning 42-32 to improve their positioning in District 15-3A. Earlier in the week, Malakoff narrowly fell to district leader and No. 17 Mineola, 50-42. The Lady Tigers are 14-14 overall and 4-4 in district play. They host Quitman on Tuesday and travel to Edgewood on Friday.
The Tigers boys basketball team also played at Grand Saline Friday, following a 63-51 loss at Mineola on Tuesday. Malakoff is 5-12 overall and 2-3 in district play. The boys share the same schedule as the Lady Tigers this week with games against Quitman and Edgewood.
Malakoff also hosted a powerlifting meet Thursday.
