Early-season struggles are now in the rearview mirror for Malakoff basketball as district play gets underway.
The Tigers opened District 15-3A action Friday with a 60-49 victory over Quitman, improving to 4-8 overall. The win marked a fresh start for Malakoff after a challenging non-district slate. The Tigers continue district play Tuesday at home against Edgewood before taking advantage of the first of two district byes on Friday.
On the girls side, the Lady Tigers fell to Quitman, 41-32, on Friday and now sit at 7-10 overall and 1-2 in District 15-3A play. The loss followed tournament action at Kaufman prior to the New Year’s holiday, where Malakoff defeated Wills Point, 49-32, before falling to host Kaufman, 54-37. With the boys back in action, the Lady Tigers also face Edgewood on Tuesday and will enjoy their first district bye on Friday.
In football news, Malakoff running back Jerrion Hall was named the District 7-3A Offensive MVP.
