You can hear that train coming, it’s the Malakoff Tigers. The Tigers have caught fire, winning three straight and clinching another playoff berth. They enter this week 5-3 overall and 3-1 in District 7-3A play, though their postseason seed is still up for grabs.
Malakoff rolled past Rains last Thursday, 61-0, behind a strong performance from Jerrion Hall, who rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers have scored at least 50 points in each of their last three games.
Friday’s matchup at Mount Vernon carries major playoff seeding implications. Mount Vernon, also 5-3 overall and 3-1 in district play, will host the Tigers at 7 p.m.
In volleyball, Malakoff may be headed for a district tiebreaker playoff match with Eustace to determine the top seed in District 15-3A. Both teams finished 10-2 in district and split their two meetings. Malakoff enters the postseason 31-8 overall. Fans are encouraged to check the school’s website and social media for updates on any tiebreaker match.
In cross country, the Malakoff girls team finished sixth at the Class 3A Region II meet last week in Arlington. Sophomore Martina Benes Gutierrez led the way with a 23rd-place finish.
