It was a tough week for Malakoff Lady Tiger basketball, and playoff hopes remain uncertain. The Lady Tigers fell to Quitman 46-39 on Thursday and then dropped a close contest at Edgewood, 35-32. Malakoff is now 14-16 overall and 4-4 in District 15-3A.

The Lady Tigers, Quitman and Grand Saline are battling for the final two playoff spots. One factor in Malakoff’s favor: a season sweep over Grand Saline. The team has a bye Tuesday before closing the regular season with two key games. Their first comes Friday against last-place Winona.

Malakoff Tiger basketball also has one game this week, Friday at Winona. The team faces a challenging road to the playoffs as it works to climb the district standings.

On Monday, the University Interscholastic League will release its biannual realignment. Malakoff will remain in Class 3A Division I for the next two years.
