Malakoff’s high school baseball and softball programs are riding winning streaks as they push through District 15-3A play.

Lady Tigers softball had a strong week, posting a pair of wins to stay in the district championship race. On Tuesday, Malakoff crushed Winona 19-0 before edging Edgewood 8-6 on Friday. The Lady Tigers improved to 16-9 overall and 5-2 in district play, sitting third — just one game behind second-place Grand Saline and two back of district leader Mineola. This week features two road games, with Tuesday at Eustace and Thursday at Quitman, one of which was adjusted due to Easter.

Tiger baseball also enters the week on a four-game winning streak. Last week, the team swept Winona in district action with dominant 21-1 and 22-0 victories. Malakoff stands 13-4-3 overall and 3-1 in district play. The Tigers also posted a 4-2 non-district win over Axtell on March 21, following a victory against Commerce. They face a home-and-home district series with Eustace this week, Tuesday at Eustace and Friday at home.

Malakoff track teams compete Thursday at the Wills Point meet as they continue preparing for district championships.
