Malakoff’s Miley Dowell will be the final athlete representing her school in UIL competition during the 2025-26 academic year.
Dowell will compete Thursday at the Class 3A state track and field meet in Austin, participating in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The junior qualified for state after placing second in both events at last week’s Region II meet in Palestine. Dowell enters the state meet seeded fifth in the 100 hurdles and ninth in the long jump. She is considered a strong contender to reach the podium in the hurdles and will look for a strong performance in the long jump as well.
Dowell has enjoyed a standout season, winning district and area championships in three events.
