Malakoff – The Malakoff Tigers bounced back in a big way Friday, defeating Mineola 51-19 in their District 7-3A home opener. Malakoff is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in district. The 51 points were a season high after allowing 50 in the previous week’s loss to Commerce.
The Tigers led 23-13 at halftime and blew it open with 21 points in the fourth quarter. Malakoff plays Thursday night at Eustace, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Bulldogs are 0-7 and 0-3 in district.
Lady Tigers volleyball secured a playoff berth in District 15-3A after wins over Grand Saline and a key upset of Eustace. Their only match this week is Tuesday at home against Winona.
At the District 15-3A cross country meet last week in Quitman, the Malakoff girls placed second to advance to the Region II meet.
