MADISONVILLE, Texas — No. 7 Malakoff led at halftime Friday but fell 38-24 to Madisonville. The Tigers dropped to 1-2 against a demanding non-district schedule.

Malakoff held a 17-14 edge at the break but was slowed by turnovers in the second half. The Tigers’ pass defense held Madisonville to just 11 yards through the air, but the Mustangs found success on the ground.

Malakoff returns home Friday to face Grandview. The Zebras are 3-0 after a 39-35 win over Waco Connally.

In other Malakoff sports, Lady Tigers volleyball is 2-0 in District 15-3A and 22-6 overall. They swept Mineola and defeated Grand Saline in five sets last week, taking the decider 15-12. Malakoff, ranked No. 13 in the Class 3A state poll, visits Eustace on Tuesday and Winona on Friday.
