MILDRED, Texas — The Eagles will look to build on a nail-biting season opener Friday when they travel to Rice for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Mildred opened the 2025 campaign with a 21-20 win over Iola, rallying late to secure the victory. The Eagles scored with four and a half minutes left to take the lead, then leaned on the defense for a fourth-down stop before the offense ran out the clock.

Junior quarterback Luke McKendree threw for 196 yards and a touchdown, while junior running back Trent Harris powered the ground game with 199 yards rushing and two scores. Head coach Jeff Callahan said the Eagles will need to clean up turnovers after committing three.

Rice enters at 0-1 following a 36-14 loss to Dallas A-Plus Academy.

In volleyball, the Lady Eagles are 14-8 after finishing fourth at the Kerens tournament last weekend. They faced Kemp on Tuesday and will travel Friday to Groesbeck.

Mildred cross country will compete Saturday in Huntsville at the Region III preview meet.
