Mildred basketball is moving deeper into the heart of District 18-2A play, with both the girls and boys teams facing important matchups this week as league positioning begins to take shape.

The Lady Eagles played host to Wortham on Tuesday before heading on the road Friday to face Hubbard. Mildred began the week at 10-10 overall and 2-1 in district action.

District play resumed last Friday for the Lady Eagles, but the return was a difficult one as Mildred suffered a 69-42 loss on the road against No. 20 Frost. Prior to that setback, the Lady Eagles competed in the Kiwanis Tournament at Navarro College in Corsicana just before the New Year’s holiday, finishing with a solid 2-1 record.

The boys team also had a notable matchup Tuesday against Wortham, with both programs entering the contest with strong résumés. Mildred came in at 12-3, while Wortham stood at 13-5, making it one of the more intriguing non-district-style tests within the district slate.

The Eagles will also travel to Hubbard on Friday. Mildred opened District 18-2A play last week with a strong 43-30 road victory over Frost, setting an encouraging tone for league competition.

While basketball season is in full swing, Mildred football continues to receive postseason recognition. The Eagles were well represented on the All-District 8-2A team, highlighted by running back Trenton Harris being named the district’s Offensive MVP.

Tight end Payton Southard was recognized as the district’s co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year, further underscoring the program’s impact. In total, eight Mildred players earned first-team all-district honors across offense and defense.

As winter sports push forward and football accolades roll in, Mildred continues to showcase depth and competitiveness across multiple programs, with both basketball teams aiming to build momentum as district play intensifies.
