The Mildred girls basketball team is preparing for the December portion of the District 18-2A schedule as league play gets underway this week.
The Lady Eagles began the week at 6-8 and will open district action Friday on the road at Kerens. They face a quick turnaround with a home game Monday against Dawson. December district games can be pivotal, and Mildred is mindful of their importance after going 1-2 during this stretch last season. This year’s slate is slightly lighter, with only two district contests instead of three.
On the boys side, the defending district champions opened the week at 8-3. The Eagles played Tuesday at Riesel and return home Thursday to host Elkhart, with tipoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Mildred is coming off a strong showing at the Eustace Tournament, where it posted a 4-1 record. The Eagles carried a five-game winning streak into the event before it was snapped by Cayuga.
In other athletic news, the powerlifting season is set to begin in January.
