Mildred High School athletics is moving back up to Class 3A Division II after just two years in Class 2A, according to UIL classification numbers released last week.

The school reported an enrollment of 255 students earlier this year, just nine above the Class 3A Division II minimum of 246. The upper limit for the classification is 366.9 students. The reclassification applies primarily to football, while other sports will compete in separate districts.

Mildred football is concluding its run in District 8-2A, which includes Frankston, Carlisle, Cayuga, Kerens and Cross Roads. Other sports programs will finish their affiliation in District 15-2A through the spring season, facing largely the same schools, except Carlisle.

The UIL will announce new district alignments for all Mildred athletics on Feb. 2, giving the school time to prepare for the 2026-27 cycle.
