The Mildred Eagles boys basketball team capped another impressive season Monday with a district-clinching victory. Scheduled a day early to allow extra playoff preparation, Mildred topped Dawson 66-41 to finish the regular season 22-3 overall and a perfect 12-0 in District 18-2A.
This marks the Eagles’ second consecutive district title, their third since 2014, and the program’s fifth straight playoff appearance. There are no plans for a warmup game this week. Mildred will enter the Region III playoffs as the top Division I seed from 18-2A, with postseason action set to begin next Monday.
The Eagles were awaiting results from Tuesday’s District 17-2A games involving Moody and Bruceville-Eddy to determine their first-round opponent. The matchup is scheduled for either Monday or Tuesday in Groesbeck High School. Fans are encouraged to check the school website and social media for updates.
On the girls side, the Lady Eagles concluded their season with a 63-36 loss to Marlin in the 2A Division I Region III opening round at Fairfield High School. They finished the year 16-14 overall.
