Back-to-back District 18-2A champion Mildred boys basketball opened the Class 2A playoffs Tuesday against Bruceville-Eddy in the Division I Region III bracket. The game was played at Groesbeck High School.
The Eagles completed a strong regular season at 23-3 overall and a perfect 12-0 mark in district play. Bruceville-Eddy entered the postseason at 10-19. With a win, Mildred advances to the area round to face the winner of Lovelady and Frankston, who also met Tuesday in Rusk. Mildred is seeking an area-round appearance for the second consecutive season.
Mildred softball is two weeks into the season and continues to integrate players coming off the basketball campaign. The Lady Eagles wrapped up play at the Buffalo Tournament this past weekend and will compete in the Rose City Tournament beginning Thursday in Tyler. The tournament runs through Saturday.
Mildred baseball opened the season with a 3-0 showing at the Frankston Tournament. The Eagles return to action Thursday at the Blooming Grove Tournament, which runs through Saturday.
