Mildred athletics will move up to the Class 3A Division II level for the next two years, the University Interscholastic League announced Monday. Football and other sports will compete in separate districts.

For football, the Eagles are in District 11-3A in Region III, a six-team district with Blooming Grove, Buffalo, Elkhart, Rice and Teague. Head coach Jeff Callahan’s program will play a five-game non-district schedule against Palmer, Rockdale, Centerville, Thorndale and Axtell.

Other sports will compete in District 16-3A in Region II, an eight-team district that includes Blooming Grove, Keene, Grandview, Maypearl, Palmer, Rice and Rio Vista. The new districts take effect in August with the start of volleyball.

Mildred football also celebrated National Signing Day Wednesday. Linebacker Colin Slizoski will play at Bethel College in Kansas, while defensive end Barron Tatum is headed to East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
